Popular content creator IShowSpeed has accidentally bought a fedora in the Roblox video game for $125,000.
IShowSpeed thought it would be funny to pretend to buy the item
A viewer asked the 18-year-old to check out the Midnight Blue Sparkle Time fedora, which is one of the most exclusive in-game items. IShowSpeed thought it would be funny to pretend to buy the item, planning to back out of the transaction at the final step. He quickly realized that he had clicked the confirmation button, meaning he spent 14 million Robux on the purchase:
The Ohio native that goes by the real name Darren Watkins Jr. tried to get a refund after realizing his mistake, remarking: “Oh my god, I thought it was going to ask for a verification, why didn’t it ask for a verification?”
IShowSpeed is one of the most popular content creators around on Twitch and YouTube. The rapidly growing Kick streaming platform reportedly offered him $40m recently to join its roster. He ultimately turned down this offer, deciding to move to Rumble instead.
Kick has been busy trying to attract new talent, especially those who were impacted by Twitch’s ban on unregulated online casino content last year. The platform’s owner is sportsbook site operator Stake, which partners with many notable gambling streamers, including Trainwreck.
